Who would have thought that a former young garbage girl could graduate from school abroad as a valedictorian? Because of the hardships of life, many children are unable to study or go to school, so at an early age, they are forced to work to help their parents.


Some are lucky and some are not, so when you have the opportunity to study, don’t let it go. Take a look at the unique story of the life of a woman who has been collecting garbage since she was a child until she has been given the chance to study and get out of poverty.


Meet Sophy Ron who lived in a landfill and at a young age was forced to work hard to study so she graduated as a valedictorian and even received a scholarship from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

“I didn’t realize it was smelly, I didn’t realize it was dirty, I slept there, I ate there, I did everything there, so it became my home.” According to Sophy.

The man everyone started approaching her and asking him if he wanted to go to school.

“He asked me whether I wanted to study English, and at that time I had no idea what English was, I ran home feeling happy because he promised he would take me to school.” Sophy shared.


Sophy was helped by the Cambodian Children’s Fund or CCF to continue her education so she took this opportunity to graduate and become a valedictorian at their school. In her graduation speech as a valedictorian, Sophy’s ingenuity especially in speaking English was evident.




Despite all the awards she has received, Sophy still has not forgotten her origins so she wants to be with friends and family before heading to the next chapter of her studies in Australia. Sophy’s life story has been wonderful and hopefully, she will succeed and reach her dream in life.


This is one of the proofs that no matter what hardships of life a person faces, they can be overcome as long as they do not give up on life’s challenges.
